The Celts are proud to announce we started a HS rugby club for Springfield and all the surrounding towns in 2010. Spring practices are right after school every Tuesday & Thursday starting February at our pitch in Kennedy Park across from the airport. Also, the HS boys can practice with the men's club throughout the year. The HS team is "Non School Specific". Any boy that is in high school can play, no matter what school. You will be playing as a Springfield Celt at the HS age group level. We have also started a New Berlin High School team and are needing players for our Spring 2012 season. Everyone is welcome. This is a "Spring Only" sport so it does not conflict with fall football or soccer.

4th Annual Rugby Camp for At Risk Kids
The Springfield Celts Rugby Club, in collaboration with the Illinois Inter-Agency Athletic Association, is hosting a Rugby Skills Camp for at-risk youth. Children from children's homes across Central Illinois will meet at Kennedy Park in Springfield on August 6th to participate in rugby for the fourth straight year.
The camp was organized by James Carlberg, the Celts coach, with the help of Tom Corr, athletic director of the Illinois Inter-Agency Athletic Association. All participants will be given a history of rugby. From there the youth will split into teams to various stations to practice different skills. Passing, kicking, and tackling are the order for the day as the youth will learn segments of the game. The finale of the day is a game of keep away geared to teaching the youth the art of passing the ball in order to make a Tri.
The 2012 Rugby camp will be held August 4th and we expect to surpass the past three year's number as it strives to reach out to at-risk youth with a positive and fun training camp. Tom Corr, Athletic Director for the Illinois Inter-Agency Athletic Association stated, "In the past the Celts have been extremely encouraging, positive and kind to our youth." "It is not an exaggeration to say that every boy has left the Celt's field for his trip home as a little better person."
